Father Gus Chrysson assumes the position of Interim Chaplain as of June 1, 2026. He works on the bishop's staff and is the bishop's "Canon for Congregational Formation," which includes overseeing campus ministry in the diocese. He will be instrumental in calling the next permanent Chaplain. In the meantime, he is excited about serving here at UM.
Fr. Gus has prior experience in campus ministry, serving for more than ten years in various liturgical and musical capacities at Canterbury Downtown, based at NYU in Manhattan. In addition to an MDiv from Virginia Theological Seminary, he holds a BMus in Voice Performance from NYU, and an MA in Music Education from Teachers College-Columbia University. Fr. Gus was ordained to the priesthood in 2019, and originally hails from Winston-Salem NC, where he grew up in a large family with Greek, Costa Rican, and Southern roots.
